I can’t wait for training camp. I miss the comraderie with the fellas, and being out there in practice competing every day with elite athletes. I miss the anticipation of the big games on the weekends and having the chance to get out there and play and try to contribute in every game.
This summer I’ve been relaxing at my house in Minnesota, seeing friends, and working out every day. In my training on my own this year I decided to incorporate something a little different. I asked two of the greatest players to ever play the game to come in and train with me and my teammates.
Jerry Rice and Cris Carter both agreed to come in and train with me. They are two of the greates wide receivers ever and they play the game in two totally different ways. I wanted to get their input and perspective, ultimately to improve my game.
Jerry Rice has such an incredible work ethic, and he has won all of those championships and been such an effective leader for his championship teams. Growing up in Minnesota as a Vikings fan I admired Jerry Rice as an incredible athlete but his team always gave us trouble so I couldn’t really root for him.
Cris Carter has been a mentor for me from day one. He used to bring me down to his place in Florida to work out with him. To this day he lets me pick his brain about how to play the position. I feel incredibly privileged to have someone of his caliber supporting me, back in high school, then college, and now in the pros.
This year I’m continuing to work on my route running ability, and my timing with the quarterback. The biggest thing I’m working on is fine tuning those skills. When I see other wide receivers out there doing so well like Lee Evans and Brandon Marshall it just pushes me to keep trying to get better
