Preparing for the 2010 season

It seems like just yesterday that we were playing in the NFC Divisional Playoff Game in New Orleans but 6 1/2 months have passed and camp is starting. After an off-season to heal the bumps and bruises, and a little travel and much needed rest, May and June OTAs began to get us back into football shape as we prepared for the 2010 season. I enjoyed watching the Suns playoff run before losing to the eventual NBA champion Lakers and I was able to attend the first game ever in the Minnesota Twins new outdoor stadium (Target Field) as well as a few other baseball games in early summer.

As I enter my 7th season, I have begun to realize more than ever that the best way to approach training camp is to "hit it full speed!" During past off-seasons, I've spent late June and July training in my hometown of Minneapolis. Myself and a group of WRs, QBs and DBs worked out five days a week to improve and maintain an edge during the upcoming season. We have been very fortunate to have some of the greatest to have ever played the game as participating mentors -- players like Cris Carter, Michael Irvin, Jerry Rice, Andre Rison, & Roy Green to name a few. The camaraderie is wonderful and the on- and off-field wisdom that is passed along is unsurpassed and greatly valued and  appreciated..... and you can't beat the Minnesota summer weather and life on the lakes, not to mention that Minnesota is home!

I was torn this past off-season between training for the usual 5 weeks or cutting back a bit and traveling to see the World Cup in South Africa. I chose to stay and maintain the full workout schedule, but did watch matches and came away with a growing appreciation of the magnificent skill level and athleticism of the world's greatest players.

As we all head to Flagstaff for the start of camp, I am very excited about the upcoming season. My health is good, my weight is exactly where it should be and my legs feel fresh. We'll all miss Kurt's friendship and professionalism and other teammates who have moved on but we've got some great young talent on this team and a solid mix of veterans. The division is getting stronger (the 49ers, Rams and Seattle have all improved) and so have we. I think everyone who comes out to Glendale this fall is going to see some great divisional games as well as terrific national games when we tangle with Dallas and New Orleans.

We really appreciate the groups of fans who come out, wear our red and black colors and gather near the tunnel to show support before and after games. I know some are just "local" Cardinals fans, but we see the signs of those who do travel, hear the cheers, and appreciate it in those hostile environments. Our road schedule is as tough as always and I am looking forward to playing my home town Vikings in the Metrodome on November 7.

Its almost time for football, so come up and catch a glimpse of the 2010 Cardinals in Flagstaff, get fired up, and we will catch you on opening day in St Louis vs the Rams!
